"Threads" is a resource for Bigfork/Swan River Middle and High School students in need. Operated by the Bigfork Ladies Service Club, we are located in the (formerly Senior) Community Center and are open Thursdays from 8:30-3pm. Students may "shop" our boutique style store for clothing, shoes, blankets, undergarments, school supplies, and personal care items at no charge. We also provide snacks. Students are referred and are accompanied by a Counselor, Teacher or Parent. We serve kids through referrals from the Foodbank as well. We are currently serving an average of 40-50 kids a week. Most clothing is gently worn or new, donated by our community. We ask for only teenage appropriate styles, so the kids can dress their age, "fit in", and feel good about themselves! We purchase items for specific high need students, as well as shoes, underwear, socks, and personal care items as they must be new. Threads is not federally funded or part of the School system, so we are run solely on hard work and generous donations. We do not have access to the actual 'numbers' of the homeless and low income families in our schools, but there are more than you would think and many of these kids have serious needs to be met.
Threads welcomes all students to visit and to take what they need while encouraging those that can, to donate items back to Threads as well.
